From educational webinars to global summits, events related to our food systems provide opportunities for learning and conversations to move us toward action.
Organized in collaboration with the Department of Global Communications, Civil Society Unit, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Kitchen Connection "Table Talks" are virtual meetings of an informal, year-round community for young people either already involved in, or who want to get involved in, food systems action. They will connect Foodies everywhere for a better food future by introducing UN, NGO, and food related-organizations to new audiences, offering an unrecorded space for networking and "no silly questions" conversation, host "challenges" like book clubs and recipe sharing, and provide action items for participants to take "from the screen to their street."

Action Track 4 is concentrating on the livelihoods at the various points within food systems - from the small-scale farmer to the retailer - and how we advance equity throughout. You can contribute to this third Public Forum by sharing your ideas and feedback on the Action Track's emerging game-changing propositions to transform our food systems, and to highlight major gaps and other areas and opportunities to be considered. UNFSS and UN Water are convening an online global dialogue on water on 27 April. This dialogue will explore the fundamental inter-connections between food systems and water systems, and their relations to other areas fundamental to the Sustainable Development Goals, such as energy, climate, and the environment. The UN Food Systems Summit competition ‘Best Small Business: Good Food for All’ will identify the best small and medium-sized enterprises from across the world transforming food systems for a better tomorrow. Running from April 29 to June 4, the Summit will spotlight winners as the “Best 50 Small Businesses: Good Food for All”, as well as a share of US$100,000 in prize money.

Gathering youth voices from around the world, the Global Youth Summit Dialogue - Good Food For All invites a curated group of 100 youth for a discussion on the future of our food systems. The Producer Public Forums aim at updating producers across the globe of latest Summit progress; seeking inputs and recommendations on emerging solution areas from producers; and mobilizing their participation in the upcoming producer-focused dialogues. Participants will be invited to reflect on current progress and share their thoughts and feedback. Three forums will take place from May 5 to 7 to accommodate different time zones.

During this Forum, representatives from each of the five Action Tracks and the Summit Dialogues will share progress of idea-generation, and next steps in the Summit process. The conversation will focus on the emerging Action Areas and Solution Clusters with an invitation for participating in and building coalitions as a part of the Summit and post-Summit engagement. The Secretariat of State of the Holy See, the Permanent Mission of the Holy See to FAO, IFAD & WFP, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and the Vatican COVID-19 Commission alongside its partners working in food security, have launched a series of webinars entitled Food for Life, Food Justice, Food for All. The webinar on May 31, will explore different responses to food conflicts, and how the Church can best contribute and collaborate to address hunger and food inequality around the world.

The fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will review the achievement and delivery of the CBD’s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. It is also anticipated that the final decision on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework will be taken, together with decisions on related topics including capacity building and resource mobilization.

The World Food Forum (WFF) launched its 2022 cycle with a side event at the ECOSOC Youth Forum during World Creativity and Innovation Day on 21 April, keeping youth on the international agenda. After years of pandemic-induced lockdowns, there is a need to think and act in a creative manner to address the pressing challenges our world is facing, and youth have demonstrated that they can be architects and innovators of their own realities and in their own sectors, including during the pandemic.

The Fifth Edition of the International Youth Conference (#IYC5) was online from 25 – 27 March to educate, empower, and mobilize youth for climate action. In addition, #IYC5 will focus on igniting youth to develop global solutions to combat climate change and the corresponding consequences. The conference is a youth-led and self-organized event, with live streaming from cities worldwide, including Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, New York, Karachi, Dubai, and Dhaka. The conference will address and share youth-focused solutions towards green living and the green economy, climate education, and mobilizing young people for climate action. Discussions will also examine the linkages between gender and climate, digital innovation, politics and climate change, and the role of citizens in preventing climate disasters.
