Featured Cheffie: Nata From Moldova

I am gourmand and neophile. That is why I adore discovering new places in town. But I also love spending time in the kitchen, cooking for my family and friends.

Who is your favorite person(s) to cook for? / Eat with?  My life partner and my daughters, but I also like to surprise my friends

What are your favorite dishes or cooking topics to teach?  We have delicious pastry in our cuisine, stuffed with cottage cheese and greens, potatoes or cabbage.

Do you have any cooking/food superstitions?  Less meat!

If you could get a tattoo of a food, what would it be and why?  I think it would be a spices bouquet: cinnamon, rozmarin, mint. I adore working with spices and seeing how they change the taste of the food.

What is one dish, drink or food topic that you really want to learn or master?  How to cook healthy bread, pizza and fine desserts

Favorite food(s) /drinks from your home country (ies)  Placinte

Favorite food(s) / drink(s) from other countries:  Lemon tart, guacamole, ginger lemonade

If you're not living in the same place where you grew up, how have your food traditions changed/ evolved with you?  I discovered a lot of new ingredients in Montreal. And I am happy to enrich my knowledge and my home menu.  Quinoa, aloe vera, blueberries, Boston salad and a lot more came to my cuisine.

Who was the first one to expose you to cooking/good eating? Who has the most influence on how/what you cook? *  My mother always insisted on teaching me how to cook. But a real gourmand I started being with my first travel outside of my home country, Moldova. Traveling is a big opportunity for a foodie.

What is your never fail piece of cooking advice? Did someone pass it on to you? Did you learn that lesson the hard way? *  Always start cooking a meal with a good quantity of fried onions. Dont's use crushed spices; always buy them whole.

What would your last meal on Earth be?  A piece of fresh Dutch herring on a whole wheat bun, with minced onions and marinated cucumbers.

Favorite kitchen equipment/gadget?  Blender and good knives
